Ion Stendl was born in Resiţa, Romania, on the 18th of February 1939.   1957 - 1963   He studies "Monumental Painting" with the professors Ion Popescu- Negreni, Stefan Constantinescu and Gheorghe Popescu at the Fine Arts Institute "Nicolae Grigorescu" in Bucharest, the decorative arts faculty. Selfportrait 1958 Portrait in studio 1988 1963   After the graduation, he remains at the same institute as preparator at the "Monumental Painting" departament. 1966 he becomes assistant 1973 lecturer. He did not promovate later because he was not a communist party member. 1990 he is named professor at the "Mural Art" departament . since 1965 1971 - 1972   Member of the Romanian Fine Artists Union. DAAD scholarship at the "Kunstakademie" Düsseldorf Germany, with professor Rolf Sackenheim. since 1993   Every summer he is a guest professor a the "International Summer Art Academy" in Beratzhausen, Bavaria, Germany. 2002   Doctorate in Visual Arts at the National Art University in Bucharest.
